INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION FAST TRACK PROGRAMME

Do you know what the Russell Group is?

Many international students and families are drawn to Russell Group universities in the UK due to their prestige, but what does this term actually mean and who is in this elite group?

The Russell Group is a set of 24 prestigious UK universities that are known for their research excellence, world-class facilities, high employability and strong connections to industry and the government. These universities consistently rank among the top in Great Britain for research output and quality.

Fun fact: One of our partners, University of Birmingham, was one of the founding universities that formed the Russell Group. This university has produced 11 Nobel Prize winners, including pioneers in chemistry and physics.

As you can imagine, getting accepted into a Russell Group university is very competitive. Not only do you need to demonstrate a high academic standing from secondary school, as an international student, your UK university application should also reflect your ability to study at a tertiary level in English and emphasise your soft skills (e.g., skills focusing on study abilities, communication, cooperation, teamwork) as well as your accomplishments beyond the classroom.

Understandably, achieving all of this on your own isn't easy. Thankfully, institutions such as SCL International College have designed courses that prepare you for UK universities, such as those in the Russell Group, to ensure your application is successful and give you the best possible start into British higher education.

In this blog post, we’ll explain what our International Foundation Fast Track Programme is and how it can help speed up your journey to a top university in the UK.

What is a fast track university foundation programme?

A foundation programme is a pre-university qualification designed to help international students prepare for undergraduate study at an institution of higher education overseas. Normally, these courses can last 9-12 months.

At SCL International College in London, we offer a short, accelerated version of the standard foundation programme that only takes 6 months to complete.

This is our International Foundation Fast Track Programme, a two-term course designed for international students who wish to progress onto undergraduate courses in the UK or internationally.

University Foundation Programmes in London: Why choose the Fast Track option?

No CAS required for admission

One of the biggest advantages of choosing fast track over our nine-month foundation programme is that you can join us on a standard visitor visa. This simplifies the process significantly, as this visa is easier to obtain in comparison to the student visa.

Tip: CAS stands for Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies. It’s a document that a school will provide you with to apply for the student visa, which usually takes three weeks to obtain.

Guaranteed university enrolment

When you successfully complete our university foundation course, you are guaranteed access to over 20 university partners in the UK and around the world. This means you can put all your focus on your studies knowing that SCL has secured your next step. It also provides you with a more secure investment for your future since you have our guarantee that you will receive at least one offer for admission to a university in our network.

What are the most popular degree choices for international students at UK universities?

If you’re not quite sure what you’d like to study at university, don’t worry, you’re not alone. Sometimes seeing what others are choosing can help you decide.

According to official UK higher education statistics (HESA, 2021-2022), the most popular degree subjects for international students include:

  • Business Management: According to the most recent statistics, this subject saw a 22% increase in international student enrolment. No surprise there! Studying business management at a UK university is versatile, globally relevant and can open the doors to a wide range of careers.
  • Computing and IT: Statistics show that enrolment in computer sciences also increased by 22%. This subject has become important in today’s world, especially with the emergence of AI. With exciting developments in machine learning, automation and robotics, more students are choosing to study computer science and software engineering at university to be part of the technology that is shaping our future.
  • Engineering and Technology: HESA data shows that enrolments in this field rose by 7% and it’s easy to see why. Engineering is a broad and dynamic subject area that includes everything from mechanical and electrical engineering to civil, aerospace and environmental technologies.
  • Social Sciences: This field of study includes subjects such as economics, politics and sociology. HESA reports that these university degrees saw a 6% increase, showing that international students are interested in understanding how the world works and how to improve society for a better future.

These trends show us that international students are increasingly choosing degrees that combine career opportunities, global relevance and long-term value, and we believe that our programme is the perfect first step to get you there.

We’ll show you why!

Which is the best school in London for an international university foundation programme?

Naturally, we think SCL International College is the best option out there! Although there are many English language schools in London offering pre-university courses, it’s important to find the one that best matches your personality and preferred study environment.

At SCL International College, we do things differently. Here’s how:

Live and learn under one roof

Most language schools are stand-alone buildings with classrooms. You’ll need to find student accommodation in London elsewhere, often several stops away on public transport, or even up to an hour of commuting time in a big city like ours.

Instead, at SCL, we remove all that hassle and save you time since you don't need to travel to the school. You’ll live right here on campus! Everything is in one convenient location: classrooms, social spaces, café, cinema, gym, laundry room, and your en-suite studio.

The unique environment that we’ve created here at SCL is perfect for students who want to practice their English 24/7 because you’ll be completely immersed in an international community on campus. We also make it easy for you to socialise outside of class and meet tons of other students from over 65 countries around the world.

Whether you stay in Kentish Town, Camden, North Acton or Hanger Lane campus, everything you need will be in the same building.

More inclusive and supportive from Day One

We believe high quality education should be accessible to students from all backgrounds. While our NCC International Programme requires a minimum IELTS level of 4.5, our fast track option only requires a minimum level of B1. This adds more inclusivity and flexibility for learners at different stages in their language journey.

Inclusivity goes far beyond entry requirements. Our campuses bring together students from over 65 different nationalities, creating a vibrant, multicultural environment. We make sure every student feels at home because it’s not just about learning, it's about belonging. Since 2013, we’ve welcomed over 10,000 students to London, we look forward to doing the same to you!

In-person and online learning for maximum impact

At SCL International College, we blend in-person learning with online resources, giving you the best of both worlds. You’ll benefit from face-to-face interaction with our experienced tutors while also having free (yes, free!) access to our digital learning platform, MySCL. This platform will allow you to review lessons, practice topics, explore career paths and manage your progress 24/7.

This flexibility means you can keep learning, even outside the classroom. To make it even better, students can still use MySCL after leaving our campus for up to three months! Check out our blog post that explains our online platform further and includes screenshots for an insider's view.

Guaranteed entry to a UK or international university

When you study with us, we offer guaranteed access to at least one of over 20 universities in the UK and internationally. On top of this, we support you with every step of your university application, from completing your UCAS application to choosing the right course, our academic team will guide you. This guarantee gives you peace of mind and a clear path to international higher education.

Tip: UCAS is the central platform used by all UK universities for managing undergraduate applications. Students submit one application through this platform, listing up to five university choices and then receive offers directly through the system. All SCL students on our foundation programme have received at least two conditional offers from universities!
