WHERE ON EARTH IS KENTISH TOWN?!
Sitting comfortably between Camden and Hampstead, Kentish Town is a part of the London Borough of Camden and is considered a residential area. Yet, between its local hangouts, central location and bustling high street, it’s a great area to set up as a student. The area is also near leafy Highgate, Hampstead and Belsize Park, and it's a ten-minute walk from the famed Camden Market. Connected by the Northern Line, Overground and multiple bus routes, it’s so well located that students have many different lifestyle options on their doorstep. Our guide gives you an inside view on where to eat, shop, and which places to visit in the neighbourhood.
Transport Links
Kentish Town underground station is part of the High Barnet branch of the reliable Northern Line, offering the convenience of a variety of commutes in and around Central London. The Northern Line flows through two branches that traverse Central London and connects with some of the city's most popular destinations such as Euston, King’s Cross, Waterloo, Charing Cross and Bank. An array of shopping options can be found if you hop off at Tottenham Court Road. Popular West End Shows are a speedy commute away via Leicester Square, and Old Street is only 15 minutes from Kentish Town.
Kentish Town station is also serviced by a Thameslink line, a main line on the National Railway System, which means you can catch a train to cities outside of London. It's also handy for those commuting to and from a number of key London airports. Meanwhile, Kentish Town West is a nearby London Overground station, which is another plus as it opens up other interesting London areas such as East London and Hampstead Heath.
Multiple buses make their stop on Kentish Town High Street and take you through the city’s centre. For example, London bus route 88 will take you to Clapham Common via central stops such as Piccadilly Circus, and the 134 bus terminates at University College Hospital/Euston Road. The N20 route is also a convenient 24-hour service that may come in handy on weekend outings, although the Northern Line also operates a 24-hour service on the Charing Cross branch Fridays and Saturdays!

Things to do in Kentish Town
The vast variety of things to do in Kentish Town is never-ending, like the numerous traditional pubs or cocktail bars that we'll cover in the Food & Drink section below. Before that, let's have a look at places that aren't eateries... or drinkeries (not a real word but we don't mind).
Hampstead Heath
The Heath is home to nearly 800 acres of outstanding lush greenery, great walking paths and more. Check out the Hampstead Pergola for some frankly remarkable views; just don't tell anyone we told you or it will get too crowded!
The O2 Forum
Catching a live gig is made easier when there is a well-known events venue a mere 15-minute walk from your home (that’s us!). With an ever-changing and diverse programme of events, we recommend to keep an eye on things, as we wouldn't want you to miss out.
Kelly Street
A very simple but unique explanation sums up Kelly Street: symmetrical dollhouse-like homes in pastel colours that make you feel as if you’ve been transported into a Disney film!
Parliament Hill Fields Lido
Just next to Gospel Oak, there is a large outdoor pool that is open 365 days a year! That's correct. Every. Single. Day.
Camden Town Brewery
One of the most unique and exciting things on the schedule is touring the Camden Town Brewery, located just next door to Kentish Town West Overground station, the home of the famous Hells Lager!
FOOD & DRINK
Kentish Town is a space well known for decadent pubs that have been around for years and cosmopolitan restaurants that cover a wide range of cuisines. So many in fact that we didn't feel like a section here would do them justice. To provide more details, take a peak at our other blogs from our "Ten of the Best" series, ensuring you can swagger around Kentish Town as if you've lived here for years.
Below you will find just a few of our favourites.
The Pineapple
Around since 1868, there is a lot of love and affection for this well hidden boozer. Expecting classic pub grub? You'd be wrong. Instead you'll be sampling some of the best Thai food around.
Camden Town Brewery
No, you haven't accidentally scrolled back up; we just had to mention this place again. What we didn't mention above is that the brewery also has a bar with a sweet outside drinking area in the cobblestone alley. They even have fairy lights! Very #Instagram.
Neighbourhood Organic
In between a café, working space and nutritious lunch serving spot, this new entry on Kentish Town High Street has gained a reputation with the local community very quickly.
Mamasons Dirty Ice Cream
London’s first Filipino ice cream parlour is located on the high street, and it’s one dedicated to offering a cultural experience. If you are a sweet tooth, then we recommend pushing this right to the top of your list.
Kentish Town Neighbourhood - Home Sweet Home
All in all, Kentish Town is a wonderfully diverse area with nearby popular destinations, eateries and drinking spots of all shapes and sizes. Its location balances between the perks of a residential neighbourhood and the abundant variety of shopping, eating and drinking destinations of Central London! Surrounded by a wealth of sights, it’s a great option for students looking to live in a quiet area with convenient commute options and lots of exciting places at their doorstep. If it sounds like the ideal pick for you, then it’s time to check out Stay Campus London Kentish Town.
