Medical degree preparation

For students interested in studying medicine at an undergraduate level, our course will:

  • Give them a taste of what studying medicine at university would be like.
  • Introduce the requirements and the application processes of various UK medical schools.
  • Guide students through what they need to know before applying to study medicine.
  • Explain the structure of university entrance exams and how to prepare for them.
  • Help students understand application components including writing an effective personal statement, improving interview techniques and identifying the characteristics of successful applicants.

  • Provide an introduction to a doctor’s and allied health care professional's role and typical work week.
  • Inform students of the rewards and challenges of a career in medicine and related professions.
  • Provide a practical introduction to medicine through simulation and skills demonstrations.

  • Provide an overview of the NHS in the UK and also introduce ethical considerations involved in practising as a health care professional.
  • Help students evaluate how well their talents and preferences match those of a career in medicine and allied health sectors.

AT A GLANCE

Duration: One week of OET prep plus one week of Intro to UK Medicine classes


Morning: Classes from 9am until 12pm


Afternoon: Optional activities such as English classes or cultural experiences


Evening: Free time and organised social events


Location: The Stay Club Colindale


Classroom size: 15 students maximum


Includes: All learning materials and on-site accommodation


Student profile: You're expected to have an understanding of basic scientific terms and concepts, and a willingness to explore beyond the science to truly understand the practice of medicine.

OET TEST PREPARATION

Studying

During the first week of our Introduction to UK Medicine programme, students attend the OET Test Preparation Course either online or at our on-site, accredited language school.

The OET is the English language test for healthcare workplace scenarios and the changing needs of the sector. It covers all four language skills with an emphasis on communication in a healthcare environment.

At the end of the course, students may choose to sit for the exam.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

This course is designed to immerse you in training experiences and get you engaged in practical exercises. Through plenty of demonstrations and simulations held in university-style lecture halls and skills labs, you'll gain exposure to the UK medical environment and best practices.
